Stybal

This is a very simple conversion that has a great impact on the model.

The spear should perhaps have been a flail or a two-handed weapon, but I just wanted Stybal to have a spear. It can always count as a two-handed weapon. My group does not play strictly WYSIWYG.
We are satisfied if nobody are in doubt as to what each model represent. We do however strive to get as much visual link from the models as possible.

Why convert this one?

This decision to convert this model was as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. In my D&D-campaign I have a God of war called Vinear Firespear, and His priests are wearing red and use spears (even under 2.ed where spears was banned weapons for priests). I wanted a model to capture this kind of priest and this model fits very well coming in shouting and with a torch burning.
  2. I just love the witch hunter models, mostly because the torches. All this years everyone playing role-playing games with models has ignored torches. Now we can light our way to fame and fortune. The cloth and equipment looks just right too: it started out being good, but you can see the wear and tear.
  3. I think it looks stupid to wander around on a battlefield with a stick upon witch you have nailed you most prized Holy Book, open to your favourite pages, and then just above that place a torch. That book just had to go.

The conversion

Using a powertool (because I has 2 of these and wanted to use one) I cut the stick as high as I could, while only retaining the round part of the stick. Then I cut the torch from the top of the stick, and finally I cut the hammerhead off just under the head.

I removed the comet-part from the medallion on his chest with a knife in order to rework the medallion into a Holy Symbol of Vinear Firespear. Finally I removed the blade of a sword from a plastic darkelf sorcerer that I once got free with a White Dwarf.

I now had 2 sticks on the model, a torch and a spearhead (the sword). I drilled holes into everything and pinned the torch and spearhead. With fragile items that might bang into buildings or be harmed during transport it's allways smart to pin.

The rest was just painting.
