I imagine the jungles of Lustria filled with overgrown, forgotten temples and shrines as well as those that are still in regular use in the villages and towns of the lizardmen.
Both types of structures are made alike, the difference being that a overgrown structure is treated like a jungle base and partially covered in flock and plants after the structure is made.
The small steppyramid is a very basic structure that is very effective as models can climb all over the structure. I imagine that some kind of idol was placed on a colum on the top. At one time a falling tree crashed into the column.
I use layers of foamboard to make stepped structures. Any kind of thin basing material will do, as there is practically no chance of warping, as the base will be small and wholly covered by the bottom layer of foamboard. Before gluing the layers together, I use a hot-cutter to scorch the foamboard to make it look like large stones fit together. Remember to use small pieces of toothpicks to strengthen the glue between the foamboard.
A column can be made from a cork, as shown in the picture. Make sure to pin it down.
In order to make a more 'stone-like' structure, I dap on a thin layer of sparkle using stabbing motions with a stiff brush.
Then all that are left is painting (black, 2-3 layers of grey drybrushed on) and varnishing. I have found that sealing the paint with a light layer of spray varnish before varnishing for effect prevents the varnishing from destroying the drybrush effect.
In my vision of Lustria the lizardmen (and perhaps other native creatures) sometimes worship creatures around them. Whole halfforgotten cities are filled with statues of dragons. At other places the locals offered captives to the Holy Bats or to the Demon Spiders.
The shrine is made just like the small steppyramid. The round part is an plastic egg-holder upside down. The copper bats are halloween decorations (I got a bag with bats and a bag with spiders, so I just had to invent some kind of religion to use it).
